Buying a car shouldn’t feel like a test you might fail.

Tell us what you’re after. We’ll come back with 3 cars worth looking at, including ones that aren’t publicly listed yet.

Start here, few quick questions

About a minute. You’ll get 3 cars worth looking at either way, free, whether or not you go any further with us.

Nobody enjoys this part

A car is one of the biggest things you’ll ever buy. It’s also one of the few where you’re expected to become an expert overnight. The person on the other side of the deal does this every day. Now you’ve got someone doing it every day for you.

  • “There are 40,000 cars listed and they all look the same.”
  • “Is this a fair price, or am I getting done?”
  • “What’s the actual difference between these 3 variants?”
  • “Hybrid, petrol, diesel or electric. Which one suits me?”
  • “What’s this car been through before I got to it?”
  • “I don’t have 3 weekends to spend on this.”

A person chooses your matches.
Not an algorithm.

Your answers don’t get fed into a piece of software that spits out whatever is listed today. One of our carfinders reads them and picks the vehicles themselves, the same way they’d advise a mate who asked.

That’s the difference. They know which model year quietly fixed the gearbox problem, which variant is worth the extra $4,000 and which one isn’t, and which cars look like a bargain right up until the first service.

We’re on your side of the desk

carfinder isn’t a dealership and it isn’t a listings site. We’re the buyer’s agent. You tell us what you need, we go and find it.

A carfinder inspecting a vehicle before purchase
  • We don’t sell cars

We have nothing on a lot that we need to move this month. No targets, no stock to clear, nothing steering you toward one vehicle over another.

  • Cars before the public sees them

Trade contacts mean we’re often looking at vehicles days before they’re listed, and buying at a price you wouldn’t get on your own.

  • We’ll tell you when to walk away

If the car you’ve found is the wrong one, or the price isn’t right, you’ll hear it from us. That’s the whole point of having someone independent.

  • Straight answers about money

No dealer pays us a cent. What you see below is the entire commercial relationship, and we’ll explain it again on the call if you’d like.

How it works

Step 1

Answer a few questions

Your budget, how you’ll use the car, what matters to you. About a minute, on your phone, whenever suits.

Step 2

Get 3 cars worth looking at

Picked by a carfinder, with the reason each one made the list and what to watch for. Yours to keep either way.

Step 3

Talk it through

If we can help, your carfinder calls to go through the list and start hunting. We’ll tell you what happens next and when.

What it costs

The quiz and your matches are free. You only pay if you want us to run the whole search for you.

Before you start

The things people usually want to know first.

How do you make money?

No dealer pays us a commission. Your matches are free, and if you want us to run the whole search it’s $499. That’s it. Because nobody on the other side of the deal is paying us, there’s nothing steering us toward one car over another.

Is this an AI thing?

No. A carfinder reads your answers and picks the vehicles themselves. The quiz is just a faster way of telling us what you need than a phone call at 4pm on a Tuesday.

What if I already know the car I want?

Even better. Give us the make and model, a listing link or the plate. We’ll check it over, tell you what it’s actually worth, and go and negotiate it for you.

I’m not in Auckland. Does that matter?

Not to us. Most stock sits in Auckland, which is exactly the problem if you don’t live there. We handle the inspection and the transport, and the car turns up at your place.

Do I need to sell my current car first?

No. Tell us in the quiz and we’ll factor it in. Whether a trade-in or a private sale leaves you better off depends on the car, and we’ll tell you which.

Do I have to arrange finance?

No. Plenty of people pay cash or use their own bank. If you’d like options, mention it on the call and your carfinder will talk you through them.

What happens after the quiz?

Your matches land in your inbox. If there’s more we can do, a carfinder gets in touch within one working day to book a time that suits.
